We're always touching underwater (2023) (teaser)

Composer statement

Developed from the concert piece Where all is blue (score available here) the score for We're always touching underwater (2023)  combines vibraphone, aluminium pipes and crotales with eerie sliding glissando sine tones, electronics and the scraping of the orchestral bass drum. The sound world supports the films arc as it slowly progresses from the serene to the uncanny and disturbing.

About the film

This work was filmed in Walyalup waters over a series of dives as the seasons changed and the ocean turned cold. It captures small, very close up moments with slow intimacy – drifting over a tiny field of luminous green macroalgae or peering into a knot of foraging catfish. It also registers profound and ominous transformations; ecological change, the passing of human life and the drift of time.
